System Components (typical)

Composting Toilet

Nutrient Recycling Activities [ Back to Top ]
Clivus Compost and Clivus Liquid Fertilizer are recycled to the landscape in accordance with the Guidelines For Nutrient Recycling and all permits. Compost is raked into the lawn, side dressed on ornamental vegetation, or tilled into a garden.

Spreading methods for Clivus Liquid Fertilizer include: by hose while walking, low pressure spray, and bumper drip line. Nutrient recycling activities usually occur during composter maintenance-- about every six months.
Clivus liquid fertilizer (composted urine) contains about 80% of the nutrients generated by human domestic life. Therefore, proper recycling of the liquid is the most important activity for avoiding the health and pollution problems, and expenses, of septic systems and sewers.

Graywater System  [ Back to Top ]
Graywater is dosed to the root zone in vegetated beds. The nutrients in graywater are recycled to the plants, with clean water recycled to the groundwater.
Maintenance [ Back to Top ]
Maintenance for a typical residential NutriCycle System includes:
  • every week-- add a gallon scoop of shredded hardwood mulch down each toilet
  • every six months-- recycle compost (about 2 bushels) to the landscape, if needed; recycle liquid fertilizer (about 150 gallons) to the landscape, if needed; rake and level composting pile; inspect all other components for evidence of malfunction (there is no routine maintenance required on the graywater system).
